Bosnia and Herzegovina granted NATO Membership Action Plan

BAACBH applauds the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries for granting Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) admission into the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) at the NATO Summit in Estonia on April 22, 2010. MAP represents a crucial step towards full NATO membership and will involve a process of political and military reforms to bring BiH in line with NATO standards. In the announcement to the press, NATO highlighted specific requirements that BiH will have to fulfill, such as placing all military equipment under the control of BiH federal government.

The admission to MAP and eventual full NATO membership will enable BiH to proceed with the mandatory reforms needed to strengthen its security, rule of law, and democratic institutions as well as to make progress towards EU integration. Support for NATO membership for BiH is a constructive initiative which will lead the Balkan region and Southeast Europe towards long-lasting stability.
