Grand Mufti of Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina Visits Washington DC

BAACBH hosted Dr. Mustafa Ceric, Reisu-l-uleme, Grand Mufti of Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina, during his working visit to Washington DC from October 15 to 17, 2007. BAACBH was active in advising Reis Ceric ahead of Georgetown University's "Symposium on the State of West-Islamic Dialogue." The symposium was convened in the context of the World Economic Forum's planned First Annual Report on the State of West Islamic Dialogue, which will be presented at the Forum's annual meeting in January in Davos. As part of the Georgetown symposium, Reis Ceric gave a presentation titled "West-Islamic Dialogue: Religion and Values."

BAACBH arranged several working meetings with proven friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most notably, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright met with Reis Ceric and Mr. Haris Hromic, BAACBH's Director of Foreign Affairs, who expressed sincere appreciation for the support Bosnia has received from Ms. Albright and her administration. It was agreed that a close consultative working relationship would continue in the future.

Meetings were arranged with Congressman Smith and Congressman Fortenberry as well as with a senior advisor for Congressman Pitts further to discuss the need for sustained dialogue and mutual support. In addition, BAACBH helped organize an interfaith dinner event with American counterparts that hosted representative of the three largest Muslim organization in the US – the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Islamic Society of North America.
