Meet ACBH’s New Interns

ACBH is pleased to introduce our current interns working from the ACBH office in Washington, D.C. this summer: Carrie Brinkmeier, Zlata Unerkova and Kara Valliere.

The ACBH Internship Program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in current affairs regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Southeast Europe.  The Internship Program serves as an effective means to introduce and advance a future career in foreign policy, journalism, public relations, human rights, advocacy, government, or the nonprofit sector.

"The ACBH interns are some of our strongest assets and they help us carry out our mission and address the current issues that are relevant to BiH," stated ACBH Executive Director, Ajla Delkic.

Carrie Brinkmeier is a rising senior at Bradley University majoring in International Studies with a minor in Criminal Justice. She is a summer term student at American University enrolled in the International Affairs and Foreign Policy seminar. Carrie recently returned from a semester abroad in Denmark where she studied Humanitarian Law and was given the opportunity to travel around Europe, including BiH. After a week in Sarajevo, she fell in love with the country and is now enthusiastic to make a difference by supporting ACBH in its work towards a multiethnic, democratic, and united BiH.

Zlata Unerkova received a B.A. in Government from St. Lawrence University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Zlata has a diverse professional background ranging from academia to the non-profit sector, and has extensive knowledge of conflict and post conflict regions. Zlata hopes that this internship will allow her to gain a greater insight into the current affairs of BiH. She is fluent in four languages, including Bosnian.

Kara Valliere is a senior at the College of the Holy Cross majoring in Psychology and Music. She is a participant in the Community and Social Change seminar as part of American University's 2013 Washington Semester Summer Internship Program. A native of Severna Park, Maryland, she has always been an avid traveler. Living abroad for three years as a child and traveling throughout Europe, Kara gained valuable insight into other cultures of which she eagerly embraced. She is excited to help fulfill the mission of ACBH as well as aiding in the promotion of a multiethnic and democratic BiH.
