The Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina (ACBH) commends Congressional Caucus on Bosnia member, Congressman Michael Turner (R-OH) for introducing the NATO Enhancement Act. As companion legislation to the bill previously introduced by Senator Richard Lugar, the act encourages NATO expansion prospects, and calls for the Secretary of State to provide the Committee on Foreign Relations and the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate and the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives a report on NATO accession.
"These nations have a mutual goal of freedom from tyranny and the right to a collective defense. I call on the Administration and my colleagues in Congress to recognize that countries such as Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Georgia should be afforded NATO membership… NATO not only serves to protect our collective nations, but our homeland as well…" said Congressman Turner.
"Congressman Turner is a true friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Bosnian Americans. In 2010 he called for a 'Dayton II' conference in order to address and tackle the challenges that continue to face the region due to the present political divisions and ineffective government structure in BiH. We urge Bosnian politicians to come to a consensus regarding the military defense property issue so that Bosnia can contribute to a vision of a Europe that is whole, free and at peace" said ACBH Director of Foreign Affairs, Haris Hromic.
