The New Face of Genocide in the 21st Century Conference

“The New Face of Genocide in the 21st Century” conference held at the George Mason University 7-10 June, 2009 and organized by the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution hosted a number of permanent scholars and educators. Dr. Smail Cekic from the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law of the University of Sarajevo, along with his colleagues, gave a presentation about the “Practice of ICJ-Legal or Political (Case: Bosnia and Herzegovina vs. Serbia and Montenegro).” Dr. Cekic gave a brief overview of the case and emphasized the importance of preservation of evidence.

On June 10, 2009, Dr. Cekic gave a presentation at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. The presentation focused on the terminology used at the International Court to identify crimes against humanity. Dr. Cekic stressed the importance of understanding the difference between the categories used to identify victims of crimes against humanity.
