Islam in Europe: Institutionalization, Immigration and Integration

The Bosniak-American Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 23rd 2008 organized a briefing on Capitol Hill titled “Islam in Europe,” with Prof. Ermin Sinanovic, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the United States Naval Academy (USNA).

BAACBH’s goal to foster democratic policy and initiate educational and developmental programs in the Balkan region paralleled the briefing’s aim. The briefing was intended to broaden Capitol Hill staffers’ knowledge about the role of Islam in Europe since Islam consistently influences Europe in religious and societal contexts. The briefing did not pertain to a specific country; rather it was an overview of Islam in Europe as a whole.

Due to Bosnia’s unique geographic location, it is often seen as a bridge between East and West, which catalyzes BAACBH’s aim to educate different constituencies with a more in-depth understanding of Islam in Europe.
